Thanksgiving is a time of remembrance and worship. It is a time to reflect on the blessings of life. Psalm 92:1 says, “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High.” As we given Him thanks, there are some specific things that we should continually give Him thanks for.

                Give Thanks for God’s Creation. Psalm 95:1-6 says, “O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto Him with psalms. For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In His hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is His also. The sea is His, and He made it: and His hands formed the dry land. O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker.” In our thanksgiving, we must recognize God as the creator. He is our maker. Apart from Him there is no existence. Everything we see around us was created by God. He made us. He formed us in His image. He has given us life. We should praise Him for creating us and giving us life.

                Give Thanks for God’s Provision. God has a way of providing for His children. Philippians 4:19 says, “My God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” When we put our trust in Him, we can be assured that our needs will not go unmet. The greatest need we have is the need of our salvation. Our sin has separated us from God. However, in God’s great love for us, He provided a way of salvation through the cross of our Lord Jesus. When we partake of the Lord’s Supper and partake of the bread, it serves as a reminder of God’s provision.

                Give Thanks for God’s Mercy and Grace. Mercy is God not giving us what we deserve. In our sin, we deserve death. We deserve Hell. However, God has provided a way for us to escape hell. He sent His only Son Jesus to die on the cross and shed His blood so that we may be set free from the penalty of sin. Grace is God giving us what we do not deserve. We do not deserve salvation. We do not deserve to have our sins forgiven. We do not deserve to have a home in Heaven. It is by this grace that we are saved. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.” It is only by His grace. It is only by His blood that we are saved. The wine that we partake of during the Lord’s Supper serves as a reminder of God’s Mercy and Grace.

                Give Thanks for God’s Promise. Once we have placed our faith and trust in the Lord Jesus, we are given a promised hope. We are assured of an eternal home with Jesus. John 14:1-3 says, “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” There is a place reserved in Heaven for you. In order to activate that reservation, you must place your faith in the Lord Jesus. As John 14: 6 says, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.” What about you? Have you believed on the Lord Jesus? Do you have that assurance of a Heavenly home? If so, give Him thanks. Apart from His love, grace, and mercy; there is no hope.
