There have been many ‘kings’ throughout history. Some notable kings include Alexander the Great, Alfred the Great, King Edward the third, Charlemagne, LeBron James, Donald Trump, Mufasa and the list goes on. But there is One King who stands above the rest. There is One King who is more powerful than all other kings put together. There is One King who will reign forever. And that’s my King! Let me share with you a few things about my King.
That’s my King who created all things. Colossians 1:16 says, “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.”[1] My King is the Word that was spoken when God said, “Let there be light.” Everything we see. Everything we touch. Everything we know as reality was created by Him. He is the very breath of life. He is the one who with His very hands knitted me together in my mother’s womb and breathed into me a living soul. He is the one who has given me life. That’s my King!
That’s my King who sustains all things. Colossians 1:17 says, “And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.”[2] “A guide took a group of people through an atomic laboratory and explained how all matter was composed of rapidly moving electric particles. The tourists studied models of molecules and were amazed to learn that matter is made up primarily of space. During the question period, one visitor asked, “If this is the way matter works, what holds it all together?” For that, the guide had no answer.”[3] Oh my friend, we have an answer. All things are held together in the palm of King Jesus. He created all things and He sustains all things. He’s got the whole world in His hands! Let me encourage you with this thought: since King Jesus has the power to hold the universe together, don’t you think He can hold your life together. When you feel like all is lost. Just go to the King who holds together the particles of an atom. When you feel as if all is falling apart. Just go to the King who keeps the oceans at bay. When you feel as if life is spinning out of control. Just go to the King who keeps the earth in just the right place in perfect orbit. When you feel like you can’t go on. Just go to the King who holds and keeps you and will never let you go. He is the creator. He is the sustainer. That’s my King!
That’s my King who died for me. Colossians 1:19-20 says, “For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.”[4] There was a time when I was dead in my sins. I was separated from God without hope. Left to myself I would be burning in hell at this very moment. But thanks be to God that He loved me so much that He gave His only begotten Son. King Jesus left His throne in glory and came down to this earth. He robbed Himself in human flesh and He dwelt among us. He suffered many things on our behalf. Ultimately, He endured the pain of a Roman crucifixion. There on the cross, He shed His blood. The perfect Lamb of God. He cried out, “It is finished.” And He hung his head and died. By His blood I am reconciled to God the Father. My sins are forgiven. At the cross of Christ I am saved, redeemed, justified, and sanctified. That’s my King who was beaten to the point of no longer appearing as human. That’s my King who had a crown of thorns placed on His head. That’s my King who had a spear thrust into His side. That’s my King who was mocked and spit upon. That’s my King who had nails driven into His hands and feet. That’s my King who gave His life for me. That’s my King who loves me. That’s my King!
That’s my King who rose again. I Corinthians 15:1-8 says, “Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time.”[5] Brothers and Sisters, be not dismayed. Do not bow your head as if you have lost. Satan thought he won. He thought he did it. He thought he finally killed God. But, early that Sunday morning there was a rumbling. The earth quaked as the stone rolled away. Then my King got up and walked out of that grave and He is alive and well today, seated at the right hand of God the Father. All of the great kings of the past died and were buried and they are still buried. Alexander the Great is still in the grave. Alfred the Great is still in the grave. King Edward the third is still in the grave. Charlemagne is still in the grave. Even Mufasa is still in the grave. But, oh my friend, my King is no longer in the grave. He arose victorious. He conquered death, hell, and the grave. He is alive forevermore. That’s my King!
That’s my King who is coming again. Revelation 19:11-16 says, “Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.”[6] There is coming a day after the rapture of the church and great tribulation on this earth that we who were caught up into Heaven at the rapture will return with Jesus to this earth. He will wipe out the enemies of His Kingdom and He will establish His reign in Jerusalem and He will rule the earth for a thousand years. That’s my King. That’s my King who will ride out of Heaven on a white horse with the armies of Heaven behind Him. He is clothed with a rob dipped in blood. His name is called the Word of God. On His rob and on His thigh, a name is written. King of Kings and Lord of Lords! Brothers and sisters, it may seem as if we are defeated. The world is getting more wicked by the second. It may seem that Satan has his way. It may seem as if God has forgotten us. It may seem as if all is lost. But, Oh my friend, I have a King. A powerful King. A mighty King. A precious King. A living King. Who will put an end to the war between good and evil. He will ride into town victorious. For He is the all-powerful King. He is the creator. He is the sustainer. He is our hope. And He is coming again. That’s my King!
Is He your King? Do you know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior? The Bible teaches us that all of us have sinned and fallen short of His glory. Our sin separates us from God. But, Jesus paid the price for our sin on the cross of Calvary. If you will right now call up the Lord and ask Him to forgive you of your sin and to save you from the penalty of sin; He will do it. He will wash you. He will cleanse you. He will give you a home in Heaven. If you will just believe in Him, He will be your King too!
